The world’s most renowned American War of 1812 Privateer Schooner Sailing in the 21st Century
Pride of Baltimore II is a reproduction of an 1812-era topsail schooner privateer. She is Maryland’s working symbol of the great natural resources and spectacular beauty of the Chesapeake Bay region, and a reminder of America’s rich maritime heritage.
Mission:
It is the mission of Pride of Baltimore, Inc. to promote the voyages of Pride of Baltimore II, a living War of 1812-era Privateer, on behalf of all Marylanders. Continuing in the traditional practices of seamanship and nautical craft, Pride of Baltimore II honors Maryland’s seafarers, both past and present, by capturing the public imagination through unique worldwide voyages of education and goodwill. Pride of Baltimore II preserves and advances the living history of the Chesapeake Bay and, wherever she sails, shares the innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and patriotism that forged and continues to define Maryland’s maritime identity.
What We Do:
As the world’s most traveled historic tall ship, Pride of Baltimore II:
- Promotes historical education regarding Baltimore built Topsail Schooners and their crucial role in naval innovation, the War of 1812, and the penning of “The Star-Spangled Banner”;
- Serves as a unique learning platform to build math, engineering, science, technology and social studies programs; and
- Serves as a visual representative of American History and entrepreneurship in every port she visits.
Pride of Baltimore II is owned and operated by the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Pride of Baltimore, Inc. Continuation of Pride II’s mission is contingent on private funding. The ship is managed by a small staff located at 1801 S. Clinton Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21224.
