Preserving our Heritage As you have learned while you were working on other Maryland Explorations, people in Maryland think it is very important to keep special things. Museums like the Maryland Historical Society have kept things from the very beginning of Maryland's history. The Museum continues to collect important items year after year - up until the present time. You might have completed the Maryland Exploration about Historic St. Mary's City and learned that people at Historic St. Mary's City are trying very hard to save as much of the city's past as they can. So that our history doesn't slip away unnoticed, the archaeologists that are excavating the city take very special care of the items that they find. One of the best examples of how people in Maryland believe in saving things that might disappear is Pride of Baltimore II. Pride II is a beautiful sailing ship. She sails around the world reminding people of Maryland's rich history as a sea trader. If you completed the Maryland Exploration Old Pride to New Pride: Combating the Dangers at Sea, you learned how a replacement ship was built after the original Pride of Baltimore sank at sea. Pride of Baltimore II helps us to preserve, or keep, a part of Maryland's history from disappearing. But back to our original question.
