April 5 - Shanghai
Students are introduced to Pride II's first port in China, Shanghai, where Captain Miles presents the ballast stone on behalf of Hawaii. Discoveries include river traffic, bicycles, skyscrapers, street scenes, and markets.
April 8 - Shanghai and a Chinese Island
Students visit Yu Gardens, the Jade Buddha Temple, the Children's Palace in Shanghai, and are introduced to the schools in China. A fascinating tale of an unexpected meeting with islanders unfolds when Pride II spends the night in an unplanned anchorage off the coast of China. Students examine features on a weather map used by Captain Miles and witness how this map depicts the conditions experienced by the ship.
April 12 - Underway and Red Tide
The crew of Pride II celebrates Easter while underway. From the vantage point of the deck, students examine the boating/fishing activities of a Chinese island during Pride II's unscheduled anchorage. The dense fog finally lifts on the way to Xaimen. The crew discovers and makes a scientific analysis of a "red tide" plankton bloom.
April 19 - Xiamen, Sister City Pride II visits her sister city of Xiamen, China. The log invites students to explore the economic zone, a traditional Chinese dinner, a unique European style island of music, street scenes in downtown Xiamen, a traditional Chinese musical performance, and a thousand year old Buddhist temple.
April 22 - Xiamen, Pride II as Goodwill Ambassador
This log presents a brief overview of the crew's routine in a new port, as well as the duties of the Teacher Aboard as she serves as an educational journalist. Facets of Xiamen are addressed such as aquaculture, tides, a special area for schools, the daily routine of schools in China, and the lifestyle of the people in Xaimen.
April 29 - Hong Kong
The dazzling world of Hong Kong unfolds as Pride II is greeted by news crews. Details of skyscrapers, electric trams, Victoria Peak, shopping, Asian art, sampans, fishing, traditional styles of Chinese dining, and a visit to schools paint a picture of the exciting diversity of this city.
May 7 - Pearl River and Guangzhou (Canton) Pride II joins an assortment of Pearl River traffic and lowers her top mast to reach Guangzhou (formerly Canton), China, once the only port in China open to trade. The rich history of this city is revealed through visits to the tomb of a Han Dynasty King, the Guangzhou City Museum, the restored home of an Cantonese merchant, and the Chen Clan Academy. In Part Two, a day of sports, a seafarer temple, the unique QingPing Market, Cantonese restaurants, shopping malls, merging traffic, and school routines tell the story of modern Guangzhou. Part Three revisits the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on the ship's departure from China, describes sailing to Taiwan, and makes note of critter visitors while underway.
